In April of 2016, the City of Maple Grove automated their Utility Permit application process by using RTVision’s OneGov permit and license solution. The City chose to use our new Software-as-a-Service model, which allows the City to pay a per permit fee.
We recently requested feedback from Kelly Matzke, Right of Way Technician, on how the process worked for the City. He commented, “Giving the applicants the ability to pay for the permits using a credit card has been a huge benefit, along with the option for the applicants to check the status on all permits applied for in Maple Grove. We consider RTVision a one-stop-shop for permitting. Applicants are able to apply, pay, and receive status notifications without ever needing to make a phone call or send an email. Everything is automated through the software.”
When asked about any challenges in implementing a new process, Kelly stated, “There are always hurdles when you try something new. Getting customers familiar with the new software was a bit of a challenge, as we were also learning the software at the same time. To help with this transition, RTVision provided the applicants and employees user guides to help navigate through the software.” He went on to say, “We wanted to limit the number of changes to the program during the construction season, as much as possible, but if there ever was a situation when a change was needed, RTVision representatives were very quick to make the change in a timely manner.”
The City of Maple Grove will also use OneGov to accept their Spring Weight Restriction permit requests online this spring.
